Low Carbon Future Summit Helps Shape Roadmap to Sustainability

On September 18th, in the Heart Atrium at SAIT, Mayor Dave Bronconnier welcomed nearly 300 people to the Summit for Charting Calgary’s Low Carbon Future.   In attendance were participants from business, NGOs, students, citizens and all levels of government including representatives from the cities of Edmonton and Medicine Hat, Alberta Environment and Environment Canada.

A diverse group of keynote speakers (including Rob MacIntosh of Green Planet Communications, Gordon Lambert, VP for Sustainability with Suncor Energy, Pat Letezia of the Alberta EcoTrust Foundation, Skid Crease, a theme weaver with EcoNexus and Sophie Barry, a grade 6 Calgary student) offered messages of challenge, inspiration and hope that helped participants in defining action plans that will form a roadmap to sustainability.

The information obtained at the Summit is now being collated and prepared for the Low Carbon Future Advisory Group who will review and make their recommendations. The final outcomes and recommendations will be posted on The City of Calgary’s Low Carbon Future website. These outcomes will chart a framework for Calgary in advancing innovative action regarding energy, climate change, green house gas emissions, eco footprint and sustainability.

Video segments of the Summit are available for viewing online through YouTube.
