Vital Conversations Supporting New Canadians Event

On April 30th, more than 100 people attended a Friday night Vital Conversations event called “Getting Started: How can we work collectively to create a more welcoming Calgary for new Canadians?” at Village Square Public Library. Hosted in partnership with The Calgary Foundation and the Ethno-Cultural Council of Calgary, the event gave participants a chance to talk about how we can make Calgary a more welcoming place for new Canadians.

The discussion was lively, and many interesting ideas were generated. At the end of the night the Presidents of the Nepalese Community Society and the South Asian Canadian Association stood up and announced that as a result of their conversations at the event, they were forming a new partnership so that their organizations could work together to assist new Canadians.

Many participants thanked the Library for hosting the event, and told staff that they saw the Library as a very welcoming place for new Canadians.
