imagineCALGARY Partnership
Committee Updates
April was an important month for the imagineCALGARY Steering Committee. The team created and adopted Terms of Reference to assist their operations in addition to as electing a Chair and Vice Chair. Jesse Row of the Pembina Institute and Russell Koehler of Sustainable Calgary have accepted the respective positions for a renewable one-year term.
Additionally, the committee has set out their working teams for the remainder of the 2008 calendar year. These committee member subsets will help to fulfill the objectives of the recently approved Steering Committee Workplan over the next eight months. Partners have begun with defining the mechanisms for how all the imagineCALGARY committees will collaborate on decision making and are also developing the indicators which are best suited to measure the progress of the imagineCALGARY Partnership over this 2008 calendar year.
The Communications and Awareness Committee launched imagineCALGARY TV in April. This new website feature allows visitors to view a series of video shorts showing imagineCALGARY Partners describing how they are acting on the imagineCALGARY Plan, and showcases their views on why imagineCALGARY is important for the long-term sustainability of Calgary.
Work has also begun on the second annual imagineCALGARY Partners event. Planning is in the early stages, but look for more information on this event (slated for November) in future e-newsletters.
As part of the Collaborative Action Committee’s (CAC) focus for 2008 – to lead by example, build on existing initiatives and create opportunities for connection and collaboration – the CAC supported the launch of the City’s Eco-Footprint Exchange on April 22. The gala event also provided an opportunity for Partners to come together under the banner of imagineCALGARY. This was an important first public presence for Partners to promote the imagineCALGARY vision and to talk about what it looks like in individual Partner organizations. It was also a first step in figuring out how we can work together. And it was fun!
CAC began investigating the third theme of action for 2008, high school completion/successful transitions to education/work/life, by attending the Funders for Youth-sponsored Kafe 12. Several CAC members participated in this event, attended by more than 200 educators, social profit groups, parents and students, in an effort to help identify strategies to further imagineCALGARY Targets in this area.
Finally, the election of the CAC Chair and Vice Chair resulted in Nilesh Kavia from the Calgary Health Region and Nancy MacKenzie of the Calgary Public Library taking on Co-Chair positions. Brett Bergie of Bow Valley College is the Vice Chair and Nancy Close of Sage Theatre has agreed to continue on as Coordinator.
