imagineCALGARY Committees Hard at Work
Every month, the three imagineCALGARY Committees will be providing updates on their activities and events – be sure to check back regularly to stay in the know.
Communications and Awareness Committee
The Communications and Awareness Committee has completed the development of the imagineCALGARY Communications Plan for 2008. This plan provides strategic direction for communication, key messages for the year and outlines tactics that will be employed throughout the year to increase awareness of the imagineCALGARY Plan and the actions that Partners are taking to create a more sustainable city.
The key messages for imagineCALGARY in 2008 are:
- imagineCALGARY is about creating a sustainable future that offers exceptional quality of life today and for generations to come
- The imagineCALGARY Plan is the blueprint for Calgarians to build the future they envision
- imagineCALGARY connects people, organizations and the community as a whole to create individual and collective success
Our next steps are to develop the Ambassadors Group, the Speakers Bureau and to build on the launch of the new and improved imagineCALGARY e-newsletter.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee has completed its draft version of its 2008 master work plan and is awaiting final vetting among all committee members during the mid-March get together at the Glenbow Museum. The Committee is aimed to support both the Collaborative Action Committee and the Communications and Awareness Committee in achieving their respective goals and as a whole, furthering the sustainability vision and goals of imagineCALGARY.
The Steering Committee is particularly interested in ensuring the imagineCALGARY structure works effectively in this first year as a community-led entity. Much work will be done to determine the best way to monitor, measure and report the activity of the collective. From a longer-term perspective, the Steering Committee will also be looking to form a strategy to define the goals and mechanisms to be employed in order to ensure the Partnership thrives in the years to come.
Collaborative Action Committee
The Collaborative Action Committee has been working over the last few months with the idea that as individual Partners and as Committee members we have the influence and the ability to create change. We recognize the importance of 'leading by example'. Not only can we, as individual Partners, help create a culture for challenging the status quo, but we can also inspire other Partners and Calgarians by modeling and sharing examples of successful individual and collective action towards the imagineCALGARY Targets.
We want people to 'see the change' and that the change is significant, demonstrable and attributable to the existence of the imagineCALGARY Plan. To this end we have discussed some common areas of passion and action and have identified three themes within the imagineCALGARY goals and Targets that will be the Committee's area of focus for the 2008 year. They are: economic well-being, environmental sustainability, and high school completion / successful transitions to education/work/life.
So far we have found a first collaborative initiative, under the heading of environmental sustainability, which will showcase the good work that imagineCALGARY Partners are doing to reduce their environmental impact. Plans to take part within The City of Calgary’s Earth Day celebrations are very much in the preliminary stages and are expected to lead to even bigger future events. |
