Charting Calgary’s Low Carbon Future: Reducing Calgary’s Ecological Footprint

The topics and issues raised at the recent roundtable discussions on Calgary’s low carbon future have been collated and reviewed by the roundtable’s facilitation team. The content was rich with examples and ideas, and after careful consideration and many different versions, the following four themes surfaced:

Inspiring action for a low carbon future
Building for a low carbon future
Smart Energy for a low carbon future
Change leadership for a low carbon future

Early this month, an advisory group was formed. They reviewed the themes that emerged, and provided guidance to narrow the focus of the upcoming Summit. The Summit’s current structure will be to encourage innovation and implementation for actions that will reduce the energy component of our ecological footprint – ultimately shaping a low carbon future.

Thanks to the people who have stepped forward to create a small advisory group to provide advice and leadership throughout this process and to help shape the September 18th Summit:

Greg Shyba, Alberta Research Council
Jeff Molden, Brookfield Properties
Wes Funk, Worley Parsons
Allan Boss, CBC Calgary
Gord Lambert, Suncor Energy
Pat Letizia, Alberta Ecotrust Foundation
Susan Belyea, ATCO Energy Sense
Carolyn Bowen, Manager, Office of Sustainability, City of Calgary
Dick Ebersohn, Project Manager of Plan It, City of Calgary
David Kelly, Sedmek Inc.
Anna Garleff, SAIT
Karla Wingate, ENMAX
Vlad Gregoire, StatoilHydro

A report for all the roundtable participants will be circulated soon, including info about the upcoming Summit. If you would like to be included in the distribution of these materials, please email footprint@calgary.ca and include – “I would like to be part of the Low Carbon Future network” in your subject line.
