imagineCALGARY Update July 2009

The imagineCALGARY Committee Corner

imagineCALGARY’s three key Committees have spent recent weeks helping to further efforts to achieve the imagineCALGARY Vision. Highlights include:

Steering Committee
There was no formal Steering Committee meeting for the month of June, as the four action teams are underway in their efforts to identify the deliverables that align to the imagineCALGARY Strategic Plan. Momentum continues to build as the teams work through understanding how best to describe Partner action and in turn how to conceptualize Partner engagement.

Additionally, the evolution of a framework to measure and report on Partner performance continues. Teams are expected to have preliminary versions of models for sharing with other action teams no later than at the September committee meeting.

Communications and Awareness Committee
The Communications and Awareness Committee has been focused on a couple of items over the last month. Three new imagineCALGARY TV videos were recently added to the website, featuring representatives from The Federation of Calgary Communities, The University of Calgary and Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta.

In addition, the second annual imagineCALGARY Awards package has been released. You can check it out on the imagineCALGARY website by clicking here. Find out how you can nominate an organization you believe is contributing to the sustainability of our city.

Collaborative Action Committee
Building on its successful series of peer learning events, the Collaborative Action Committee is preparing to engage the imagineCALGARY network and community partners in a dialogue on engaging newcomers in learning, and successful transitions between work and learning. The Whole Community Approach to Supporting Newcomers event seeks to bring together varied organizations to share ideas and build capacity to support newcomers to Canada.

This peer learning event is scheduled for August 18th, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in room 418, Bow Valley College Main Campus, 332 – 6 Avenue SE, Calgary.

If you’re interested in participating, please RSVP to Brett Bergie at bbergie@bowvalleycollege.ca.

Looking ahead, the Collaborative Action Committee hopes this event will help foster an understanding of the core components of successful community engagement to advance everyone’s work, while informing future and broader discussions on learning and successful transitions.

The Collaborative Action Committee will meet again in July to discuss a number of issues and to plan activities for the autumn months.
