imagineCALGARY Update August 2008

Partner Question and Answer:
The Aero Space Museum

his summer the imagineCALGARY Partnership welcomed its newest member, the Aero Space Museum Association of Calgary. Steven Ogle, Chief Executive Officer, and Alan Gallant, the Museum's Education and Public Programming Officer and President of the Society of Educational Resource Groups (SERG), recently participated in an interview about their new role in the Partnership.

Q.
How long has the Aero Space Museum been involved in imagineCALGARY?
A.
We joined the imagineCALGARY Partnership in July 2008.
Q.
What prompted the Museum to join as a Partner?
A.
As part of the Aero Space Museum's contribution to the city's social fabric, the Museum believes strongly in preserving, teaching and displaying our Canadian aviation heritage. Aligning ourselves with imagineCALGARY will help us achieve our business plan objectives that include:
Expanding the Museum's library to tie in with the City's library resources;
Creating an oral history archive of our aviation pioneers through research, interviews and video documentation; and
Expanding programs and services to tie in with Alberta schools' curricula-related programs.

These are all inline with the goals of imagineCALGARY for a sustainable future.

Q.
How do you plan on being involved with the imagineCALGARY Partnership?
A.
Our participation will include sitting on the imagineCALGARY Steering Committee and taking a leadership role in promoting imagineCALGARY with all of the other civic Partners.
Q.
Does the Museum have any particular plans for using the imagineCALGARY Plan in the future?
A.
The imagineCALGARY Plan gives our Museum the opportunity to strengthen ties throughout the Calgary educational community, networking with other heritage sites and organizations that might have otherwise missed the vital connections that link us together. imagineCALGARY gives us a shared platform and mandate that allows us to highlight the long continuum of Calgary's rich social and cultural history in all of its aspects.
Q.
What benefits do you see imagineCALGARY offering the Calgary community?
A.
imagineCALGARY will give member organizations a common vision on which to base their long-term goals. By allowing these sites to focus on common themes and a shared foundation, the community will be able to envision, experience and understand that Calgary as a whole is genuinely greater than the sum of its parts. Rather than a collection of chunks of culture, history and development, a clearer notion of the development of Calgary as a single, greater entity will manifest.
