Calgary Board of Education
The Calgary Board of Education became an imagineCALGARY Partner because we recognize that this city-led project needs to become a community owned initiative in order to succeed. We recognize our responsibility and impact on influencing our city’s social, economic and environmental well-being. Learning is our business and as a public school system, our focus is the future. The vision, Goals and Targets of imagineCALGARY fit well with our goals of each and every student achieving academic success, of being good citizens, of achieving their highest personal potential , being of good character and completing high school with a foundation of learning to function effectively in life, work and continued learning.
Through our current planning processes we are addressing, at least, a total of 45 imagineCALGARY Targets- whether it is Communications, or Energy, Waste Management or Creative Self Expression, Economic Well-being or Lifelong Learning; the CBE is an active and contributing member of the community of Calgary. Our contribution to the Targets are as a result of being an organization responsible for the education of nearly 100,000 students but also as a result of being a major corporation employing nearly 13,000 individuals and holding the responsibility for millions of square metres of buildings and land in the city.
Our recent initiative, the Eco-Team (Education, Energy, Environment) is a collaborative approach for ecological stewardship that involves students, teachers, employees and partners. As a world-class school system, with world-class teachers, staff and students, we know our future is all about turning imagination into action.
As a city, we have an opportunity to be truly sustainable, an opportunity to make our future happen, a future built with purpose, drive and passion; a future that looks after the needs of today’s citizens and those to come. It is the right thing to do.
